I didn’t like Gnome 3 until I watched this video… Wow! Really it’s great for tablets! And since tablets are likely to replace desktop and laptop computers, Gnome 3 has a great future.

Wow, Gnome 3 looks MUCH better for tablet use than for desktop use.

How do you get the keyboard to appear on startup of applications?

Enable “Grab & Drag” for Fire Fox. Much better for tablets.

@jononordby Actually that is exactly what user wants! The keyboard to overlay the application but not that part what is being typed. Right now that virtual keyboard just renders the whole screen useless.

Does it work for logging in and unlocking the screen?

@jononordby so it will work in every new distribution whithout making any settings? This would be great!

@ThePascalSchneider Hey. The touch screen driver is mainline starting with kernel 2.6.38, so with Fedora 15 it works out of the box!

@motus You do not want the keyboard to obscure the text input field you are typing in. The easiest way to do this is to ensure the keyboard never overlaps with the application. However, this is not ideal, and actually not enough for good integration either. My next blogpost will talk about this subject in more detail.

nice presentation, but why isn’t the keyboard an overlay?

    hi!
    i’ve also got a wetab.
how could you enable the touch screen in fedora?
i tried it in fedota 14 with gnome 2.x but it didn’t work.
    now i use ubuntu 10.10.
    did touch work out-of-the-box?
